The short answer:  It depends.

The long generalized answer: The amount of ground covered in a given research session depends largely on record availability, searchability, and the degree to which one's ancestors left a paper trail. We can also use DNA, if desired or applicable, to supplement or, in some cases, make up for deficiencies/inadequacies in reasonably obtainable documented evidence necessary to make defendable conclusions concerning kinship. 

Generally speaking, the 3-hour mini-project may uncover evidence linking at least one generation to the next under the best of circumstances. However, the main purpose of this project is to learn about the scope and nature of a research problem and develop, at the very least, a tailored plan specific to the unique circumstances brought forward by a given client. 

Under ideal research conditions, the 10-hour Bronze packages may be sufficient to connect two to three generations. For more complex problems, this may only be sufficient to perform a detailed review of prior research provided by the client if they have done a lot of prior research in the past and perhaps a literature survey of what other parties have found or attempted to find concerning the matter at hand. 

Under the best circumstances, the 20-hour Silver packages may link four to five generations. For some research problems, obtaining and adequately evaluating evidence sufficient to produce even a single new generational link in 20 hours, in relation to the billable hours assessed by our research director, should be considered a significant accomplishment, even in the hands of a highly-skilled, educated, and experienced expert.

Under ideal circumstances, the 40-hour Gold package may enable the fasciculation of ten or more generational linkages. However, some problems are so complex that even 40 hours, in relation to the research director's billable hourly rate, may not result in conclusively finding what one is looking for.

Again, these are merely estimates and generalizations. Any given project may encounter circumstances that may reduce or increase its overall productivity potential in terms of what a given client may use as their empirical metric for measuring the project's relative level of success. 

Generally, the further back in time a project focuses, the more difficult and time-consuming it gets to fulfill a given objective.

It is also important to keep in mind that if one or others have been stuck on finding the parents or point of origin of a given ancestor, even after considerable time and effort has been expended, one should also be aware that it may not be possible for even an experienced, trained professional to solve the mystery in one session. Many complex problems or research situations often take more than one research session to resolve or overcome properly. 

At the end of the day, it is important that a professional genealogist consults the best and most applicable resources to reasonably perceive the likelihood of locating the desired pieces of evidence, which may lead to answering one's question.

All we can ethically promise is that an expert will handle each of our client's projects, and research will be performed as agreed beforehand, following our client's expressed goals and specifications.
